Our story – Shaking things up

Raspberry Shake is democratizing the technology, science and information that was once only accessible to government institutes. Measuring the Earth’s moans and groans, monitoring earthquakes and issuing timely alerts was once the exclusive business of government institutes with deep pockets. The cost of seismographs limited our collective ability to study earthquakes and other sources of ground motion. The status quo has been Shaken.

The Shake-up began when the Raspberry Shake 1D personal seismograph launched on Kickstarter’s crowdfunding platform in July, 2016. It was a resounding success, receiving an award for innovation from SENACYT, Panama’s equivalent of the national science foundation.

For the first time, hobbyists, citizen scientists and educators could access a plug-and-play professional Earth monitor and institutes could take advantage of this same technology to easily densify their existing networks with affordable seismographs.

Raspberry Shake brings the joy of science and technology to the people, empowering them to collaborate across borders and be their own independent source of earthquake information.

As citizen scientists and hobbyists we have grown into the largest community-powered seismic network in the world, monitoring earthquakes globally, unrestrained by borders, politics and money.

We imagine a future when the fastest, highest quality earthquake information comes from a cross-border collaboration of citizen scientists and educators in cooperation with local geophysical institutes and not from governmental organizations alone. We imagine an age where citizen scientists and their professional counterparts collaborate to drive innovation and promote scientific and technological advances.

Science and technology belongs to all of us- to you, to your neighbor, to your local geophysical institute, universities and young minds in the classroom.

Join us as we push for Raspberry Shake to usher in a new age in scientific monitoring.

Our team – The driving force

Behind every successful product are the people that make it happen. We have an outstanding team at Raspberry Shake and none of the company’s achievements would have been made possible without the incredible skills of all of these individuals.

Our team is made up of earthquake, computer and electronics professionals from many different parts of the world.

Their ability to go above and beyond, and the quality of the work they produce is inspiring. Together they are revolutionizing the seismic industry.

What was once only accessible to organizations with near unlimited budgets, is now accessible to anyone who is interested!

Ángel, now retired from Raspberry Shake since 2018, was the spark that lit the fire. Since that spark was lit, dozens of collaborators have added new logs to what has become a blazing fire. Our collective creative powers amplify the creativity of our founding inventor.

In gratitude to Ángel for his service and inventive powers, The Raspberry Shake Team

Winners of the National Award for Business Innovation

In October 2020, second place of the National Award for Business Innovation was obtained by the company Raspberry Shake, SA, with its project “Raspberry Shake Scientific Citizen Seismological Network”. It consists of a worldwide network of scientific citizens (unlike the majority that are from government institutions) that provide the information collected in their personal seismographs and share it for the benefit of all. No matter which version of Raspberry Shake you have, you can be part of this worldwide network and give back to the community through the data collected.
