Raspberry Shake is democratizing the technology, science and information that was once only accessible to government institutes. Measuring the Earth’s moans and groans, monitoring earthquakes and issuing timely alerts was once the exclusive business of government institutes with deep pockets. The cost of seismographs limited our collective ability to study earthquakes and other sources of ground motion. The status quo has been Shaken.
The Shake-up began when the Raspberry Shake 1D personal seismograph launched on Kickstarter’s crowdfunding platform in July, 2016. It was a resounding success, receiving an award for innovation from SENACYT, Panama’s equivalent of the national science foundation.
For the first time, hobbyists, citizen scientists and educators could access a plug-and-play professional Earth monitor and institutes could take advantage of this same technology to easily densify their existing networks with affordable seismographs.
Raspberry Shake brings the joy of science and technology to the people, empowering them to collaborate across borders and be their own independent source of earthquake information.
