Did you feel it?

Visualize, understand, and be aware of how the Earth moves and shakes around you, all the time, in real time. Detect even the most imperceptible ground motion activity.

Interact with your local environment like never before

Discover first hand the “seismic noise” we humans make from our incredibly varied activities. Compare them to those from natural sources such as storms, landslides and earthquakes.

Access all the latest global earthquake events

Stay up-to-date with one of the most complete lists of earthquake activity in the world and see thousands of events recorded on personal seismographs like yours.

Use the same tools as the Pros

From a pin drop to a big earthquake, you can see it all with our professional-grade hardware, which is easy to set up and connect to our all-in-one mobile app. So even though it’s used by the pros, you won’t need to be an expert to use it!

So... A fascinating thing about seismology "in this day and age" is that: You can put an ~$400 @raspishake seismograph at some random place, and it will likely record an intriguing variety of all kinds of things, including, of course, earthquakes...

Even from the other side of the world at 19,025 km away from #Thailand, Stations R21C3 and RDD06 pick up the M6.1 #Peru-#Ecuador border region #earthquake 30 July 2021 at 17:10 UTC @raspishakEQ @raspishake

If you have a geek Dad, best Fathers day present on the planet. @raspishake My Dad in Victoria Aust loves his! Check this little quake out from a few hours ago. He put it in a 5 gallon bucket behind his bungalow and cant stop raving about every little twitch he sees on it.
M7.7 #earthquake occurred today at 13:20:00 (UTC) near the Loyalty Islands, north of New Zealand, detected by my@raspishake. This earthquake was ~16500 km's away (epicentral distance), and is clearly visible in the waveform. #CitizenScience

Living in Tokyo, the RS4D is the perfect tool for keeping track of and comparing the regular earthquakes we feel here. It’s so much fun watching the seismic waves in real time and sharing the data with my followers on Twitter – they get a real kick out of it.

Liz Upton, Raspberry Pi Foundation

Bringing the affordability of a piece of kit like this down to consumer level is a real achievement: previously this sort of equipment has only been available to universities, governments and other bodies with the ability to make very big investments. As you have probably gathered; we love it.

Steve Caron, Citizen Scientist

I have been using the RS4D since October 2017. I absolutely love it. The setup is easy and support is always available from the group at Raspberry Shake and the community of shakers. Living in Southern California, I knew there would be quakes to view. However, I never realized I could pick up large quakes from around the world. The RS4D’s sensitivity is amazing.
If you are interested in seeing what quakes recorded on my RS4D look like, here are some samples: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCAhqlmltCW94ipicG8X-oLw

Frequently Asked Questions

While some regions of the world experience more earthquakes than others, the whole planet is always shaking in some way or another. If you live in an area with little earthquake activity around you, you will still be able to detect strong earthquakes that occur on the other side of the globe, as well as many other fascinating activities that cause the ground to vibrate beneath you. Check out our “How it works” page for more details!

The performance of all our seismographs is comparable to a professional seismograph. They can detect everything from a pin-drop to an earthquake from the other side of the world!

Yes - Anyone can use them! They are plug-and-play and set-up is easy, just follow our simple setup instructions.

All models require connection to an ethernet cable and a power source.

Our ShakeNet mobile app is available in both the Google Play Store and Apple App Store.

Anywhere! Ideal locations are out-of-the-way, quiet places that have access to a power plug and are as close to the ground as possible.

Seismographs are usually so expensive that only geophysical institutes can afford them with some costing $50,000 and upwards. They are also typically incredibly complex to operate. The only other seismographs which are somewhat accessible are the very basic seismographs used in education. These are completely analog and commonly cannot be connected to any computer or software and start at around $700. Raspberry Shakes are the only professional-grade digital seismographs which are easy-to-use, affordable and fully tied into a global seismic network.
